Year three at the clubs new headquarters saw the YCC stage what will go down in history as the best show since the YCC Centenary Event way back in 1994.
A fantastic atmosphere together with an excellent entry of well over 500 Yorkshires which included many of the best Yorkshire Canaries seen anywhere in the world in recent years, combined to provide a fitting tribute for the 50th anniversary of the Golding Model, to which Yorkshire canary breeders aspire, across the globe.
The show was judged by George Weeks, Ron Greaves and Joe McGrath, who between them, drove home the message loud and clear, that the Yorkshire Canary is a bird of position, drive and character, possessing excellent feather quality for all to admire.
The show winner was an excellent unflighted variegated yellow hen from Darren Scullion, showing in partnership with his father, Brian. Such was the quality of the leading exhibits that several of the leading top seven Champion Exhibits could easily have been adjudged Best in Show on a different occasion.
Leading the Novices and making his first Novice entry was former YCC ex-junior exhibitor, Chris Hall, winning with a long sided, clear yellow cock bird. An attractive exhibit, it nevertheless failed to beat Darren Scullion’s previously mentioned hen for the prestigious Best Bird award, but an outstanding achievement from such a young, up and coming exhibitor. Well done Chris!
The new perpetual YCC award for Best Mainland European Exhibit was won by Filip and Micheline Harens with an attractive green buff cock bird, which was also awarded 2nd Best Novice.
Overall, we are sure Sidney Golding would have been proud of the show dedicated to the legacy of his model, produced by the artist, fifty years earlier.
