Yorkshire Canaries are adaptable birds, and will quickly settle into a variety of surroundings. In the UK, birdrooms vary from wooden structures such as a garden shed, to more substantially built birdrooms, or perhaps converted garages. It is also quite common to find that a spare bedroom has been dedicated to provide the birds quarters.

The important thing to remember is that a room free from draughts or damp is essential. This should be as light and airy as possible, and to this end, adequate air vents must be provided, for the comfort of both the birds and the birdfancier.

Changes in temperature should be avoided, so it is best to dry line the room as a form of insulation. The temperature should be maintained at around 40%F throughout the winter, rising in the summer when breeding is in progress.
